One of the leading causes of internet blackouts is government censorship. This can happen when a government wants to suppress political dissent or control the flow of information. For example, governments may shut down the internet during political protests or elections to prevent the spread of dissenting views or to avoid organizing demonstrations. In some cases, governments may also shut down the internet to prevent the spread of fake news or misinformation.

Another cause of internet blackouts is technical issues. This can happen when there is a problem with the infrastructure that supports internet services, such as a power supply failure or cable damage. In some cases, technical issues can also be caused by cyber attacks, which can disrupt internet services.
