VOCs
Some of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are released in the form of gases from certain solids or liquids. VOCs designate a group of chemicals, some of which may contain harmful short-term and long-term health implications. Some of the VOCs are found to have approximately 10 times higher concentrations indoors than outdoors. VOCs come from an impressive array of products which number in the thousands.
Organic compounds form the basis of a vast number of household items. Paints, varnishes, and wax are full of organic solvents, just as many cleaning, disinfecting, cosmetic, degreasing, and hobby products.
As people indoors spend most of their lives, long-term exposure to VOCs in the indoor environment compounds severe health problems.
Efficient ventilation and air-conditioning systems can effectively be used to decrease VOCs in the indoor environment.
In this project, we will exploit a USB sensor dongle to measure VOC levels, which will be connected to a Raspberry Pi, and the data will be stored in the InfluxDB time-series database. We will use the Grafana application to build an air quality monitoring dashboard quickly.
